When Virtual Staging Backfires

Virtual staging works when it’s realistic. It backfires when buyers walk into an empty room expecting the staged version. Best practices:

Always disclose. Label staged photos as “virtually staged” in your listing. Most MLSs require this, and buyers who feel deceived don’t make offers.

Keep it realistic. AI can put a grand piano in a 10x10 bedroom. Don’t. Stage with furniture that actually fits the space and matches the home’s price point.

Stage the right rooms. Living room, primary bedroom, and kitchen have the highest ROI. Don’t waste time staging a laundry room.
